PERSON of the week: Dr Bollywood

Dr Rashmi Shetty  - India’s Most Promising Cosmetologist (according to Asia’s Biggest 5th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit & Business Leadership Awards 2012)

Dr. Shetty is a pioneer in non-surgical aesthetic medicine in India. She was one of the doctors who pioneered Botox and Fillers, in India. Dr. Rashmi Shetty is also known as the Bollywood Doctor, she has remarkable aesthetic sense and a clientele that includes Bollywood, television celebrities

Her passion: creating beautiful faces. It gives her immense pleasure when she sees her patients regain their confidence and beauty. She personally believes that cosmetology gives fabulous results when art and science come together.

Her special interest: injections. It requires an experienced hand and precise knowledge of every pore;

Dr Rashmi Shetty about Perfect face: Ishwarya Rai Bachchan is Bollywood's most coveted actress. We get maximum requests for Aishwarya Rai's narrow jaw line and high cheekbones. Most people still think of her as the one with a perfect face," reveals cosmetic physician.  But hey, do you realize that they may not be so perfect on you? The famous Angelina Jolie lips or the Priyanka Chopra nose, let’s face it, look best with the rest of that particular face. Angelina’s lips for one, will only look good on an angular face (and with Brad Pitt on your arms!) It’s important to bring out the best of yourself instead of chasing a star nose, lips or any other feature in singularity.

Some of her findings over the years: I have learnt, however, that beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. Earlier I would think since I'm the doctor, I know what to do and they are all going to love it. But now I’ve realised what is beautiful to me may not be beautiful to someone else. That's why we go through a long consultation phase where in I find out whether what I'm trying to create is really what the patient wants. What’s more, I teach them to appreciate the finer details of these treatments.

The unique healing properties of Platinum

Forlle’d is launching two new products of Hyalogy Platinum line. Face cream and Hyalogy Platinum Eye cream will extend the range of the products based on ionized low molecular Platinum. The expected release date is January 13, 2013. Now Hyalogy Platinum line consists of Platinum Lotion, Essence and Mask.

Main reasons of ageing and healing properties of Platinum.

There are two main reasons of ageing. The first is physiological related to the accumulation of active oxygen generated inside the body, which causes deterioration in the cell membrane, DNA, cellular activity etc and the other is photo-ageing due to the buildup of oxidants stimulated by ultraviolet radiation. Hyalogy Platinum line targets at fighting with both of reasons.

In both cases oxidation reaction release free radicals, which are important for human skin in moderate quantity, for example they eliminate bacterial infections. On the other hand the accumulation of these substances causes rusts and rots as it happens in nature. Human body undergoes such reactions as well due to the fact that it gets oxidized from 2 % of oxygen inhaled, stress or additives taken. Some metals like platinum or gold has the ability to prevent rusting which also works for skin, by changing oxygen to something harmless such as water for example. Beside numerous quantity of discovered anti oxidants such as Coenzyme Q10, polyphenol, vitamin C or lipoic acid, platinum and gold have proven to be the most active anti oxidants, since they work against wide range of oxidants and act as catalyst which means it doesn’t lose its activity once they react with oxidants and remains active as long as it stays in the skin.

Hyalogy Platinum line developed to control photo-ageing process by improving skin’s antioxidative ability to control photo-ageing, troubles resulted by the accumulation of free radicals and decline in its cellular activity.

Low molecular Platinum Hyalogy

Platinum particle size is very important since it determines its activity and safety, for example Particle size of 1/8,000 ~ 1/10,000 mm has metal dispersibility in an aqueous solution of 8000 ~ 10000 times/ 1mm, which form for a colloidal substance with limited physical pulverization. This kind of colloidal platinum has poor electrical and thermal conductivity plus weak absorption. Forlle’d technology have managed to reduce the size of platinum particles to 1/1million ~ 1/10 millions through a high-tech ionization process with dispersibility of metal ion 1 million ~ 10 millions/1mm. This allows water to become closest to the electric conductivity that metal has which is very crucial to its antioxidative function.

Beside its anti oxidative function, platinum boosts the activity of body cells; this fact has been explained through various researches that were related to their impact on human body and problems related to their deficiency.

Average temperature of human beings is 36.5 0C which is 10 microns when we convert it into wavelength. When we expose human body to far-infrared radiation of about 10 microns, like those emitted by the sun, they give kinetic energy to molecules which have electric polarity (such as water molecule), this is because two wavelengths are piled up and the amplification occurs, a phenomenon called resonance. When molecular movements are activated, cellular movements are also activated. The bloodstream increases and the metabolism become active. Platinum is one of three metals that have a wave length of 4-14 microns which is called growth ray, since it activates body metabolism and cell growth.

Platinum has been authorized as food additive, but it also depends on whether it is inorganic compound or organic compound. Hyalogy’s ionized platinum has become an organic mineral through the process of fermentation. It is pentavalent organic compound like those found in fish or Hijiki which causes no harm to human body unlike trivalent.

Hyalogy platinum has 0.2-20 nm particle can go into the horny layer from the surface. Due to its size it gradually gets permeated into the cells in horny layer and gradually pushed out (the horny layer gets pushed out as dirt). In short, it activates the turnover of the skin. Since the particle’s dispersion is good, the workability as a surface is high. By combining platinum with titan, gold and silver, the electric current is sent from high electric potential to low. On the opposite, it produces electron, so the antioxidant function works more effectively. Arbutin low-molecular ceramide as well as hyaluronic acid make a perfect combination with Hyalogy platinum to fight photo ageing skin.

Molecular cuisine. Gastronomy Latest Trend

Don’t be surprised.  We are still writing about Beauty and Skincare innovations.

But .. we can’t ignore such relative trend in sphere of Gastronomy.

Molecular gastronomy is scientific approach to cooking.

It’s based on uniting knowledge that fundamental science gives, summarize all kinds of culinary phenomena that occurred throughout the history of gastronomic art and modern innovative technologies.

Chef Ferran Adrià (Spain) is one of the founders of Molecular gastronomy. The press has dubbed him the "Salvador Dalí of the kitchen" because of his creative approach to cookery.

Ferran Adrià  prefers the term 'deconstructivist' instead of "molecular gastronomy» to describe his style of cooking.

Whatever you call it you have definitely heard of emulsification, specification, foam and powders! For those of you that think it’s about using “unnatural additives” you have another thing coming to you. All of the additives used in MG are plant derived, and furthermore you are already consuming them in your everyday food products, you just don’t realize it.

Have you ever seen the dinner of the cosmonaut? Molecular food looks like the best dinner in his life :)

Bio availability (In cosmos the metabolic processes progress slowly that’s why the food of cosmonaut has such specific form) and unique taste!

Ferran Adrià said «If I like a good steak, you can serve that to me, and I'll enjoy it. But it will never be an once-in-a-lifetime experience

Skin care tips for men

Taking care of skin for men no longer carries the embarrassing stigma of metrosexuality. It’s just normal and natural to know the skin’s needs and give it a proper care.

Here are some common beauty tips for men’s skin:

Cleansing is the most important thing to do for the skin. It should be the basis of skin care regimen, but that doesn’t mean reaching for a simple soap. Men’s skin typically has large pores and very active sebaceous glands. While these glands are critical for keeping the skin naturally moist, they can often produce too much sebum. Neglecting to wash away the excess oil and dirt can clog pores, which leaves the skin prone to breakouts. It’s necessary to use a cleansing gel every morning.

Exfoliation should make an appearance in the skin routine (just two to three times a week). It helps dislodge debris that normal washing can’t touch. A good scrub should have granules to help smooth the skin and eliminate the dullness that results from normal pore clogging and dirt build-up. Exfoliation also softens hair follicles for a closer, less-irritating shave and allows the skin to better absorb moisturizers.

Moisturizing. Showering and shaving open up pores and allow precious water to escape, but a light moisturizer can fix everything. It replenishes the skin’s moisture content and prevents razor burn.

A moisturizer with SPF will also provide a critical shield against the sun

The skin around the eyes is the only area that actually deserves special attention, because men don’t age the same way that women do. Instead of a slow progression of fine lines and wrinkles, men’s aging occurs in quantum leaps, and one of the first visible signs of aging comes from the skin around the eyes. The soft, thin layer of skin that surrounds the eye is especially prone to developing creases and crinkles long before other parts of the body begin to show their age. All of this can be prevented with regular use of an eye cream. It smoothes and protects the fragile skin.

Eyes are the mirror of the soul

Our eyes are certainly an important part of our individuality and an important means of expression. Unfortunately, the first place that we notice the fine lines and wrinkles that come along with getting older is the delicate skin around the eyes. This is because this skin is much more thinner than that on the rest of our face and therefore more susceptible to damage caused by the breakdown of collagen and elastin (aggravated by exposure to UV rays and pollutants), as well as from the expressions that we make. When we laugh, smile, cry, worry, etc. the lines that appear around our eyes are eventually etched into the delicate skin leaving behind the ever dreaded crows feet.  By taking special care of the fragile skin we can reduce the appearance of bags, discoloration and wrinkles keeping our eyes bright and expressive.

Staying out of the sun, staying hydrated and enjoying a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables promotes healthy skin all over our bodies, however, there are a few ingredients that can be added to our daily skin care regimen that can ward off wrinkles, discoloration and puffiness that tend to show up around the eye area. Because the delicate skin around the eyes contains few oil glands, it can easily become dry, making fine lines and wrinkles much more prominent. By moisturizing often, we can plump up the skin around the eyes so that fine lines and wrinkles are less pronounced.

One of the most effective means of keeping the eye area looking youthful and line free is through the use of peptides short strings of amino acids which mimic processes in our bodies thus giving cues to our body’s natural system of repair to increase collagen production,
lymphatic drainage and micro-circulation.Skin care products containing peptides tend to be more expensive than some of their less advanced counterparts, but they yield results that are not possible through the application of moisturizers alone.

Applying antioxidants to ward off free radical damage is another essential part of a healthy skin care routine, as antioxidants both heal and protect delicate skin. Vitamin C is another important antioxidant when carring for the fragile skin around the eyes as it strengthens skin cells and prevents pigment discoloration while fighting free radicals.

One of the most important ways to keep ourselves looking young and healthy is by taking good care of our bodies and paying special attention to the area around our eyes when performing our daily skin care routine.

HOW TO SPEND WEALTH ON CREAMS

Every woman wants to stop the ‘age clock’ as aging gives ugly fine lines, under eye puffiness and dark circles. Unfortunately, it can only be delayed but not stopped completely. We can’t really spin back the time, but many of the best anti wrinkle creams can reduce the facade of wrinkles, lines and dark circles in just a few weeks and they are ‘clinically proven’. Some skin cosmetics are costly enough to be locked in a safe as very often we come across many anti-aging creams that cost a fortune.

No cosmetic company guarantees a complete revamp of the look but they claim to reduce the aging spots and other problems in the skin. Well, there are alternate treatments for skin like Botox and other surgeries but it is any day better to utilize your money on something that is less risky. From $10,000 skin cream to a volumizing serum that costs $600 per ounce, the beauty creams are not cheaper than Botox but are less risky. The question is what makes this product so astronomically pricey? Well, time-intensive study, and striking wrapping, the expensive and rare ingredients such as exotic antioxidants extracted from rare plants, crushed pearls, gold, caviar and other things are some of the main contributors to the whopping prices of face cream. Well, let’s have a look at some of the most expensive beauty creams:
1. Price: $10,000

Key ingredient: Stem cell properties
Yes, this cream costs much more than any Botox or face up-liftment therapy that normally costs $5000-$6000 maximum. The company claims that the cream has stem cell extracts that refinishes and re-hydrates your skin like no other beauty cream or beauty treatments.

2. Price: $3000

Key ingredient: sea proteins
Some skin creams are expensive because of the content and others because of the packaging. This cream comes in a Luxury Edition of 50 ml diamond-studded cream pot. The bottle has been decked with 2,400 Swarovski crystals adorned with hands in 42 hours of hard labor. Not only because of the bottle but the cream is expensive because of the rare content present in it. It is one of the most richly textured creams mixed with sea proteins (caviar) Phytotherapy and Bioengineering technologies. This 50ml of jar comes with a price tag of $3000 ($2,900 to be precise).

3. Price: $2,350

The Essence skin serum
Key ingredient: Marine algae
Company promises that it’s magic cream, which has all the rare sea extracts that can do wonders to the skin. With the ingredients, such as petrolatum (the contents of Vaseline), glycerin and eucalyptus leaf oil, the cream has already proved its metal.

Do Retinol Products Really Get Rid of Wrinkles?

Retinol is a proven vitamin A ingredient to help stimulate cell regeneration and build collagen to get firmer, younger-looking skin every day. It transforms the look of the skin by reversing the visual effects from sun damage, soften lines and wrinkles, fade brown spots and and smooth the texture of the skin.

For many years, Retin-A (Vitamin A) was a topical cream used exclusively to treat acne. Since it had a lot of harsh side effects, such as dryness, redness and peeling of the skin, a doctor would need to give very specific instructions to their acne patients about how much to use to try to lessen these negative effects. Dr. Thomas Fitzpatrick the Chief of Dermatology at Mass General Hospital always demonstrate to his patients with acne how much topical Retin-A was needed on one of his own hands. He would take a pea size amount (his recommended amount for the entire face) and rub it on his hand. Day in and day out, he would continually demonstrate the cream on his hand and one day, to his surprise, noticed that he had one hand that looked much younger than the other!

This realization led Dr. Fitzpatrick to be of the doctors instrumental in getting the FDA to recognize Retin-A as a cream to help reduce wrinkles In 1991, the FDA approved Retin-A as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Soon, Retin-A was all the rage and women were lining up at their dermatologists’ offices to get a tube of this miracle cream. However, the use of Retin-A didn’t go so well at first. There wasn’t as much awareness of how to use it properly to lessen the drying side effects so women were slathering it on. They soon discovered the downside of trying to achieve younger-looking skin—peeling, flaking, dryness, redness and overall irritation set in quickly.

In the early 2000s, cosmetic companies started introducing non-prescription Retinol products that were marketed as a way to get the results from the prescription versions, but without the side effects. Women decided to wait until new technology presented more effective options.

Some years ago, it was finally created the Retinol serum with new formula. Clients were very satisfied – pores appear smaller, brown spots have lessened, and lines and wrinkles are truly softened. Retinol is that, when used long term along with exfoliating products to enhance the absorption of this active ingredient.

Microdermabrasion review

Microdermabrasion is one of the more recent skin-care techniques. It's being advanced as an "instant facelift" – an effective alternative to costlier and more invasive procedures like plastic surgery, chemical peels and Botox injections.

Microdermabrasion, also known as microderm and it is one of the easiest and most effective anti-aging treatments. Its benefits are many: microderm softens fine lines and wrinkles, helps to smooth coarsely textured skin, decreases the appearance of scarring, decreases pore size, and reduces superficial hyper-pigmentation, also known as age spots.

Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. Skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It's a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through. When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through the stratum corneum, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like blemishes and wrinkle lines.

Microdermabrasion is essentially powerful mechanical exfoliation with an expensive machine, generally either the original crystal microdermabrasion technology or the newer diamond-tip microdermabrasion. It is a cosmetic technique that uses a mechanical medium for exfoliation to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the epidemis.

Microdermabrasion has evolved from stones and shells to crystals, particle-free diamond tips. Once the desired amount of exfoliation has been reached, some microdermabrasion units will then infuse a skin specific solution into the skin.
Microdermabrasion also makes it easier for high-tech skin care products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and help build collagen, which gives skin its youthful appearance.

The crystal microdermabrasion device consists of a compressor that draws in air through a hand-held wand. When the wand touches the skin, a vacuum is created. Aluminum oxide crystals, also known as corundum (the second-hardest mineral next to diamonds) blast across the skin’s surface, picking up dead surface skin cells along the way. The crystals and dead skin cells are quickly sucked up through a different tube in the same wand and go to a disposal bag.
The depth of exfoliation is controlled by the strength of the vacuum and crystal flow, which is determined by esthetician.

Cautions on Microdermabrasion:

Do not get microdermabrasion if you have extremely sensitive skin, diabetes, vascular conditions like rosacea, skin inflammation, bacterial infections.

Apply sunscreen and stay out of the sun after your treatment. Along with the dead skin cells, you have removed some of your protection

BEAUTY SECRETS directly from OLYMPIAN

Women in sport are beautiful inside and out. Many have found that to stay in shape and motivated it takes a lot more than two practice sessions a day and a strict diet. It takes motivation. Motivation is personal and can’t be taught or prescribed. It can be encouraged or sparked by the world but their private standard of health and beauty comes from within. Perhaps that’s what makes a true Olympian – or what sets the champions ahead of the pack.

When winning and losing is based on splitting a second into halves and thirds, it can take a lot out of you physically, of course, but emotionally and spiritually as well. That’s what shows on your face, in your eyes, on your skin.

Dara Torres, well known  swimmer from US Olympian team, is 41 years old and she looks really amazing! What keeps her beautiful is her love to sport and family? She struggled with an eating disorder for five years, so now she takes amino acid supplements and eats right. She treats her skin well and often with super moisturizers and really clean water.

When you ask about skincare, you’ll get a laugh or a groan from many Olympians because their skin is under daily duress. Especially swimmers spend countless hours putting their skin through the ringer. And cosmetic companies are finally taking notice and providing products designed for the skincare of intense athletes on and off the field. These products include SPF30 sunscreens with anti-sting technology, SPF20 lip balm packed with vitamins, long lasting friction cream, gels designed to restore the skin of tired feet and a similar formula for abused skin.

If you think about someday becoming an Olympian, consider that it takes a lot more than skill to be a champion. Their ease and beauty come from support and emotional strength too. And take a note, that you may need a strong anti-friction cream to carry about your skin!

Korean luxurious “Anti-Aging” tour at Ritz-Carlton

With a taste for luxury, China’s affluent are not only investing huge amounts in art, private jets and sport cars, but are also splurging on luxury vacations and traveling around the world as well. Now, these ultra-rich Chinese are also showing interest in luxurious beauty experiences or what the Chinese media is calling ‘meditel,’ – a combination of medical services and a hotel offering treatment, accommodation and rest. Wealthy tourists will visit South Korea on an exclusive charter flight to splurge on $88,000 Korean “Anti-Aging” tour at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Hotel Seoul.

There is a growing interest rich Chinese in the tour packages of shopping, sightseeing and plastic surgery; one of the travel agency is offering this anti-aging program.

One very prestige anti-aging clinic and spa located inside the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Seoul will provide the anti-aging service to the Chinese tourists. It offers the numerous anti-aging programs priced from $440 to $87,680. And, thirty other clients selected the program, which covers a physical check-up, plastic surgery, hair transplantation, and skin care, all costing more than $43,800. Further, three of the Chinese nationals who visited Korea this month booked a ‘full package program’ of 8-nights at a Ritz-Carlton suite which includes a stem cell treatment ranging from $8,768 to $43,800 along with provision of nutritional supplements for six months.

As said by the clinic, few of the Chinese tourists also paid more than $88,000 in adding medical items after consultation with doctors. Further, it has also introduced complete wellness packages comprising of medical examination services, filler procedures and high-end spa treatments.

So-called meditels, or medical clinics situated inside luxury hotels, are the latest trends in the fast-growing medical tourism industry in South Korea. Meditels allows the patients to use the exclusive medical services they demand, that too without waiting or going through complicated administrative services.

BEAUTY PRODUCT: SERUM

Serums are a skin care product with high concentrations of certain active ingredients. These ingredients can be things like hyaluronic acid (to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles), vitamin C (to brighten the skin and help reduce the appearance of pigmentation and age spots) or glycolic acid (an exfoliate).

They are often used after cleansing and before applying moisturizer or night cream as a sort of supplemental product. They are commonly used in targeted skincare for anti-aging, anti-oxidation, hydration and plumping, brightening, evening skin tone and to help with acne. Some claims say that the molecules in serum are smaller than in lotion therefore they penetrate the epidermis (top layer of skin) more readily and quickly.

Moisturizers are formulated to keep the skin hydrated by putting a protective barrier between it and the outside. Serums are formulated to penetrate deeply into the skin. The molecules in a serum are smaller than those in a moisturizer. This means it can deposit ingredients deeper into the skin to deliver key ingredients.

Serums are applied after cleansing and toning, but before the moisturizer. Ideally, apply the serum while the skin is still slightly damp from cleansing.  An small drop should be enough. Some women mistakenly think more is better, but the skin will only absorb as much product as it needs. Excess is just a waste of product.

Depending on the serum, results can be shown immediately. But most require about four weeks of consistent use for visible results.

After that you may find a serum becomes an indispensable part of your daily skin care.

My chemical romance or what you need to know about chemical peels

Skin is the biggest organ of the human body. It is exposed by harmful ultraviolet rays, changes in climate, pollution and other elements that inflict damage. All these can be a cause of sunspots, wrinkles and other blemishes that make skin looks older. Luckily, human body has a few biological processes working in our favor, and also there are a lot of procedures, which can give us the ability to use those processes to our advantage.

In fact, we «shed» our entire skin about once a month, and as fast as we «shed» those cells, our body makes new ones to replace them. Often when we develop imperfections such as sunspots or scars, they only affect the top few layers of skin. So to remove those imperfections it is necessary to remove those layers of skin.

That's where a chemical peel can help

It removes layers of skin so that newer, healthier skin cells can surface. In the process, blemishes and other imperfections are peeled away. Depending on the extent of the damage, one treatment might not completely eliminate imperfections, but it can make them much less obvious.

As far as chemical peels go, glycolic acid peels are among the mildest and most popular. That's largely because glycolic acid is considered to be natural. It comes from sugar cane and belongs to a family of acids called alpha-hydroxy acids or fruit acids.

During a glycolic acid peel, the solution is applied using a sponge and left on the skin for a predetermined amount of time based on concentration. It penetrates the skin and breaks the bonds that hold each layer together. Once the desired number of layers have been separated and removed, the acid can be washed off with water.

Glycolic acid peels are mild when compared with some of their more hazardous counterparts, and as a result the outcome might not be as noticeable as you'd like. It's typical that multiple peels will be necessary to achieve the desired result. The upside is that there are very few complications associated with glycolic acid peels.

Treated areas are generally red and tender for days after the treatment, and depending on the type of peel, these side effects could last for weeks. With glycolic acid recovery time is usually rather quick. In fact, a complete recovery can be expected in about a week.

VAMPIRE THERAPY

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP Therapy) is a skin regenerating medical technique, which uses the patient’s, own blood to produce plasma enriched with platelets, growth factors and stem cells. Once re-injected beneath the patient-donor’s skin, it accelerates normal healing processes by stimulating collagen formation, revascularization and repair. PRP Treatments have become increasingly popular among celebrities. Angelina Jolie is rumoured to have had PRP injections. It’s not surprising – Angelina always has special relations with blood.

The cosmetic doctor, Daniel Sister, has introduced it to the UK. The idea is that a doctor draws vials of patient’s own blood, and then separates it into the red blood cells, the clear serum and the platelets. Then, after vitamins and amino acids have been added, the enriched serum is injected back into the face. Platelets gradually increase collagen, which can increase skin thickness and overall health of skin.

In a recent study from Italian Skin Institute, patients were injected in the face and neck once a month for three months. The study showed «visible anti-age results and no serious side effects”. The procedure gains popularity among women.

The actual process takes 30 minutes. It involves the following steps:

1. Blood is removed from a patient (20ml);
2. Then it centrifuged and the Platelet Rich Plasma is removed;
3. Then it introduced into the skin using a special roller.

Blood injections can be made in any area of body and face, including skin around the eyes and chest. Because of using the own patient’s blood there is no risk of allergic reaction, but next side effects are possible: slight redness, swelling and bruising may occur immediately after the treatment, but will fade away over the following days.

HALF-AND-HALFER or HOW TO DEAL WITH COMBINATION SKIN

Skin is of basically five types:

1. Oily skin.
2. Dry skin.
3. Combination skin
4. Sensitive skin  and sunburn skin.

The first three types of skin are mostly common. The type of skin is mostly determined by the genetics and to some extent by our ethnicity.

Caring for combination skin can sometimes seem a fickle matter. Too much moisturizing and the oily spots get worse. Too much cleansing and the dry spots get worse. It takes balanced skin care to deal with both issues at once. Being the tricky and complicated skin type, it needs your extra effort to look after it. Individuals with the combination skin type always encounter two conflicts at one time. First to reduce oil from the oily areas while the other to replace moisture and kill the dryness. In short it requires a skin care for two absolutely different skins.

The biggest secret to dealing with combination skin is to deal with each area separately. Though you can find products that do both, this is usually the easy way out. The easy way out rarely results in impressive and healthy skin.

Combination skin is made up of two types. The 'T' area, which includes forehead, nose, partly cheeks closer to the nose and chin are oily areas whereas other are either dry or normal. The very first step should be deciding that what actually causes more skin problems to you, oil or dryness. If the skin is shining in the T-zone but looks tight and scaly around your eyes and cheeks, it means that you have to tackle dryness problem. On the other hand, if your cheek and eye areas feel slightly tight but your T-zone is covered with oil and blemishes your combination situation is oily.

Here are some tips for persons with combination skin type:

Always use a mild cleanser to remove dirt and oil from combination skin. When cleansing the face its necessary to cleanse the T-zone twice a day and cheeks once a day. Treat both areas differently as one is more oily than the other. Alcohol-free toners and astringents are very useful for helping maintain balance in the skin.

Don’t scrub oily areas—this irritates the skin and increases oil production.

After washing the face at night be sure to remove dead skin cells (exfoliate) with the gentle scrub at least twice a week: use products containing alpha hydroxy acids that normalize the skin.

Moisturize your skin at night.

Aid the skin in balancing from the inside out. The best way to do this is to stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Healthy, hydrated skin has an easier time balancing and repairing.

UNDER THE STRESS

Unfortunately, stress has become a general presence in our lives. At work, in relationship with friends and family – most of us take it for granted that there is nothing unusual about stressful situations occurring on a regular basis, day after day. Stress works insidiously to undermine body, mind and emotions and the complexion because how we feel on the inside could be affecting how we look on the outside.

When a person becomes stressed, the level of the body’s stress hormone (cortisol) rises and it leads the following negative effects on complexion:

1.  Acne
In one study, researchers examined the severity of acne in 20 college students during final exam week. Students who were more highly stressed by their exams had worse acne than calm, less stressed students. In other research, relaxation therapies have been shown to reduce the severity and incidence of acne.

2.  Itchy, ugly rashes
Epidermal skin cells lie on top of each other and are packed tightly together, forming a strong barrier that blocks the penetration of bacteria and other pathogens. When the person feels stress this protective outermost layer of skin becomes impaired.

Stress caused the outermost layer of skin to break up as skin cells shrank and the lipids between these cells evaporated. These tiny cracks make the skin more permeable, allowing harmful bacteria to infiltrate the deeper layers of skin. For example, stress can make psoriasis worse.

3.  When stressful situations become frequent, the skin is consistently starved of both blood and oxygen, making it dull and lifeless, less supple, less hydrated and more prone to appearance of clogged pores and breakouts.

4.  Beyond the direct physiological effects of stress, patients under stress also tend to neglect or abuse their skin. For example, they often lack the energy and motivation to adhere to their skin care regimens, and there also might be signs of stress-related behaviors — such as scratching, pulling or rubbing — that can exacerbate problems.

Here are some important tips to prevent stress damage:

Healthy food. Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants can help scavenge free radicals generated by stress.

An adequate amount of quality sleep can help recharge and rejuvenate the body, making it more resilient. Lack of sleep can lead to tired lifeless skin and circles under the eyes.

The daily warm oil self-massage is recommended as a luxurious way to balance the body, mind and emotions and moisture the skin.

AGING CHANGES

No matter how young the person might feels at heart, the skin probably isn't feeling as youthful as it once did.

Skin loses its elasticity and strength because the body produces less of the proteins collagen and elastin and hyaluronic acid with each passing year. Collagen gives to skin its firmness and strength, which in turn helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Elastin, as the name suggests, is responsible for giving to skin its bounciness or elasticity. As elastin loses its ability to spring back into shape, the skin will wrinkle and droop. The outer layer of your skin – the epidermis – thins out as the person gets older, and person has fewer but larger melanocytes.  Melanocytes are the cells that produce pigment, giving that vibrant and youthful look.

The epidermis holds less water in older skin, dryness is a common problem in aging, especially around elbows, lower arms and lower legs. Applying heavier moisturizers will help, as will bathing less frequently and using warm instead of hot water.

With time the blood vessels of the dermis, the middle layer of skin that contains the collagen and elastin, damage much more easily than in youth.  Skin is thinner, it is more delicate and will tear more easily. Cells replace themselves more slowly, so it's best to clean and protect wounds to avoid infection.

In time of being outdoors in the sun, it’s necessary to wear plenty of sunscreen (with an SPF of at least 30) and a wide-brimmed hat. The sun isn't the only culprit of aging skin. Smoking also tops the list because it can give to skin a yellowish tint and deep, creased wrinkles.

Aging is an inevitable part of life, as are the signs of it on the skin for most people.  It’s very useful to know that skin needs a special care in different age.

There is a wide range of qualitative skin care products with note «anti-age» on the labels, which help to look after the skin and keep it healthy and beautiful.

DEEP BREATH FOR THE SKIN

An oxygen facial is basically a high-pressure blast of oxygen that feeds serums packed with vitamins, minerals and collagen into the skin. The result is a clearer, plumper smoother face and a younger looking you. An immediate change in appearance is common. An oxygen facial delivers a mixture of hyperbaric oxygen, or pure oxygen at a high pressure, and anti-aging serum through an airbrush to the face and body. It's almost as though someone is using a tiny power washer to pump oxygen and moisturizer into the skin.

The technology originated in Australia and has developed a serum – using hyaluronic acid, vitamins A, C and E, Japanese green tea and aloe vera – to use in association with therapeutic grade oxygen. Because of the anti-ageing properties of hyaluronic acid – boosting new cell growth, while enhancing elastin and collagen production.

Oxygen levels in the skin diminish considerably with age, smoking and exposure to air pollution. Some claim the oxygen levels reaching your facial tissues via natural blood micro-circulation can drop by as much as 70% by the time you’re just 30. In other words, the less oxygen in your skin – or to be precise, in the epidermis, the top layer of skin – the more visible fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of ageing.

An oxygen facial works by super-charging oxygen levels in the skin, resulting in better circulation and skin cell regeneration, which, between them, leave the skin glowing. It’s good for making skin look younger, reducing greyness, rosacea, healing bruising, and general wear and tear. A purifier, oxygen also kills surface bacteria, which helps to keep skin clear.

There are several types of the procedure:

Rejuvenation Infusion – suitable for all skin types, firms and tightens skin and improves skin tone.

Opulence Infusion – ideal for treating skin problems such as uneven skin tone and pigmentation.

Atoxelene Infusion – an add-on to the basic Rejuvenation or Opulence infusions, marketed as a non-invasive alternative to Botox to soothe fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the mouth, eyes and on the forehead

The whole process takes about 45 minutes. Results for each treatment are immediate and should last for one to two weeks.

Brains best friends

Amelia Freer, Nutritional Therapist at Stephen Price (London health and fitness company where Forlle'd cosmeceutics can be purchased), tells what food helps us to stay mentally alert and focused in hectic times

What we eat, or don’t eat, can directly affect how we concentrate and focus on the tasks at hand, yet while we select clothes that fit and flatter us and medicines that treat us, why do we so often choose foods that undermine our physical and mental performance rather than support it?

THE PLACE UNDER THE SUN

Everyone is in love with summer. It is the sunniest season in the year. Despite on plenty positive moments which sunshine gives us it is necessary to remember how dangerous sun can be to our skin.

The sunlight consists of invisible ultraviolet (UV) rays. When these rays reach the skin, they cause tanning and burning. Sunlight contains three types of ultraviolet rays: UVA, UVB, and UVC. The most agressive to skin are UVA rays.

These rays cause skin aging and wrinkling and contribute to skin cancer, such as melanoma. Because UVA rays pass effortlessly through the ozone layer (the protective layer of atmosphere, or shield, surrounding the earth), they make up the majority of our sun exposure.

Thats why it is so important to know how protect yourself from the sun skin damage.

Choose the right sunscreen. Sunscreens come in lotions, gels, creams, ointments, and sprays. Use a sunscreen that:

o Has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 or higher (Its necessary to use a higher SPF when you are near water, at higher elevations or in tropical climates).

o Says "broad -spectrum" that protects the skin from ultraviolet A and B (UVA and UVB) rays.

o Lip balm or cream that has SPF of 15 or higher will protect lips from getting sunburned or developing cold sores.

Protect the skin from sun damage with antioxidants. Even the best sunscreens don't block all of the sun's rays. Antioxidants such as vitamin C and grapeseed extract are important in protecting the skin from the sun's rays that do reach it. Use a vitamin C serum or an antioxidant skin cream underneath the sunscreen.

Nourish the skin from the inside. Eating lots of vegetables and low glycemic index fruits high in antioxidants is a great way of nourishing the skin from the inside. Its very important to drink a lot of pure water dayly (especially in summer).

Sunburn happens. Everyine should know how to repair the damage. Gentle scrubs help remove damaged skin cells and stimulate the skin to heal itself. Keep the skin moisturized, since well-hydrated skin functions better. Apply oils or nourishing creams that target damaged skin.

THE FIGHT AGAINST ORANGES

Do not be surprised reading the name of the article. Of course oranges are extremely useful but only like a fruit not an orange peel syndrome on the skin. According the statistics 90% of all women have a cellulite so its necessary to know where is it come from and how we can deal with it.

Cellulite is a condition that affects the appearance of the skin in areas with underlying fat deposits (most noticeably on the buttocks and thighs), giving the skin a dimpled, lumpy appearance. Cellulite is also known as orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, hail damage.

The causes of cellulite are:

Hormonal factors – hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.

Genetics – certain genes are required for cellulite development. Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.

Diet – people who eat too much fat or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.

Lifestyle factors – cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.

There are several therapies that have been suggested to remove cellulite.

Therapeutic methods that are physical or mechanical include pneumatic massages, massages that stimulate lymphatic flow, heat therapy, ultrasound, radio frequency therapy, magnetic therapy, radial waves therapy. Mesotherapy is the injection of medications under the skin to dissolve the fat.

Liposuction removes fat through suction. Usually it combined with a laser to treat cellulite more effectively.

Various creams that contain chemicals called methylxanthines such as caffeine and aminophylline have the potential to break down fat stores and make skin smoother.

However, eating a healthful, balanced diet and exercising may be the best way to reduce the fat content in cells and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
